We are looking to appoint a full-time Teacher of the Deaf for our Primary Hearing Impaired Additionally Resourced Provision (HIARP) in Kirklees.

This post will commence in September 2024.

This is a very exciting opportunity to work within an experienced and supportive hearing-impaired additionally resourced provision, as an intrinsic part of a successful mainstream Primary School.

Lowerhouses CE Primary School has a very strong track record in relation to supporting the education of primary and early years’ children with a hearing impairment.

A trainee or qualified Teacher of the Deaf is required to work with children aged birth to 11 and support them and their families in homes, Early Years settings and mainstream schools peripatetically, plus some teaching in the hearing-impaired resourced base in school.

We require an outstanding, enthusiastic and experienced primary teacher (preferably with 3 years primary experience) who:

  • Has a passion for children’s learning with a creative approach.
  • Has very high expectations of achievement and behaviour.
  • Is flexible and adaptable.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills
  • Is committed to the safeguarding of all pupils.
  • Has an additional qualification in deaf education and expertise in teaching children with a hearing impairment (or are willing to work towards gaining qualifications)
  • Willing to work towards BSL level 2.

As a school we can offer:

  • Enthusiastic children and parents
  • A positive, caring and welcoming staff
  • A well-resourced learning environment
  • Supportive Governors
  • An opportunity to make a difference to the lives of our children.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our amazing team of hard-working and dedicated professionals.

The role will involve both peripatetic work and teaching within a resourced provision.

Ideally, we would like a qualified teacher of the deaf, but we would also welcome applications from those who are training or are willing to undertake the Teacher of the Deaf training course.
