The Passenger Travel Team

The Transport Service provides escorted transport for 900 pupils, and 300 post 16 students with special educational needs and disabilities to schools and colleges within Kirklees and beyond.  The service also arranges transport for other services including for older people to day care, children who are looked after, and other provisions for after school clubs and short breaks/respite. 

The Role

As a Passenger Assistant Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring that children with special educational needs and disabilities are transported safely. Seat belts, harnesses, and for children who use wheelchairs, the appropriate restraints are used, and that the Passenger Assistants have received appropriate training, support and supervision.

You will complete monitoring inspections to ensure that the Passenger Assistants deliver a high-quality passenger transport service by means of assisting passengers and attending to their personal, physical and medical needs, assisting drivers and contributing to a safe and efficient transport service.  The Supervisor will report any transport related concerns to the Transport Office and liaise with parents, bus operators, schools and day care establishments to resolve issues.

You will be responsible for carrying out a planned program of inspections in order to ensure that vehicles provided by independent transport operators are compliant with contractual and road transport regulations.

You will be required to work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the service. You will travel on vehicles as required, this could include a morning route start time of 7am (approx) and later finish of 6pm (approx).

The ideal candidate will bring their experience of caring/supporting children with special education needs and disabilities, along with knowledge and experience of disabilities medical conditions.

The team has a responsibility to safeguard the service users, therefore experience of working towards safeguarding policies and procedure is vital, along with others such as health and safety.

Travel is an essential part of this job and therefore it would be extremely difficult for you to do your job effectively if you did not use a car for all or most of the time.  It is essential that you hold a full and valid driving license, and it is expected that you will either use a council vehicle or your own car. (Exceptions can be made for disabled applicants)
