Are you an experienced, talented and collaborative waste disposal contract manager supporting public sector transformation and change?

Kirklees Council has exciting and ambitious plans to modernise and transform waste disposal contract services, and we are looking for talented people to join us. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Kirklees, to drive delivery of improvements and to be part of our journey towards delivering the best possible waste disposal services for Kirklees residents. If so, Kirklees Council is seeking to deliver a commercial and business development focus and approach to its waste disposal contract services. The post holder would support the day to day management of the waste PFI contract. Contracted services currently includes management of: an energy from waste facility, a materials recycling facility, 2 waste transfer stations, 5 household waste recycling centres, and 2 closed landfills – all of which is currently managed by one contractor.

You will help to embed and promote a commercial culture within the service and with the contractor and will have experience doing so for other local authorities or businesses in the field of waste management. You will apply effective programme and project management methodologies to deliver initiatives, develop new commercial business opportunities and ensure the programme successfully integrates well with the existing contract, the overall strategic framework for the service, and the wider corporate strategy of the Council. You will establish, build and maintain positive, effective relationships with the contractor to ensure commercial opportunities are maximised.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills, the ability to understand and motivate staff, to work with senior managers and Members, and the ability to carry out financial planning.
