An exciting opportunity has arisen to play a pivotal role in developing, embedding and capitalising on our regional healthtech ambitions across West Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority and partners are seeking to appoint an exceptional individual to work across the healthtech ecosystem to join our team.

We bring together local councils and businesses, through the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP) ensure that our work meets the needs of employers so that everyone in our region can benefit from economic prosperity supported by a modern, accessible transport network, housing and digital connections.

It is an exciting time to be joining the Combined Authority, following the announcement of a £1.8bn devolution deal that has been secured for West Yorkshire. Devolution will enable us to drive up living standards for local communities while tackling the climate emergency and help deliver our commitment to become a net zero carbon city region by 2038.

The key objective of this role is to bring together the health innovation ecosystem to implement the regional healthtech strategy, drive economic prosperity in the region and boosting health outcomes. You will be working with and across a range of external partners including (but not limited to) the West Yorkshire and Harrogate ICS, the Yorkshire & Humber Academic Health Science Network, and the Leeds Academic Health Partnership via the Healthtech Leadership Group.

This is a high profile and varied position, providing a unique opportunity to contribute to maximising the opportunities that health innovation opportunities can provide to the region – creating economic growth plus health and wellbeing outcomes. It is also a chance to build strong, lasting and productive relationships across a range of critical stakeholders.

The Role:

Reporting into the Head of Innovation and Digital (but working across a range of internal and external stakeholders and formally into the LCR Healthtech Leadership Group and Business Innovation and Growth Panel/Successor Committee your key responsibilities will include:

  • To act as dedicated resource to support and grow healthtech activity in the region and establish a virtual cross organisation team to support activity across discovery, deployment and adoption (but with a particular focus on the opportunities of translation and spread into the health and care system.
  • To work closely in partnership with a range of external stakeholders (locally, regionally and nationally) to bring together the health innovation ecosystem to achieve demonstrable improvements in healthtech innovation and patient outcomes.
  • To lead on the development of strategic and operational partnerships across the ecosystem, including developing an understanding of the needs of the regional healthcare system.
  • To leads on the coordination of the promotion of healthtech through the engagement of a wide range of identified stakeholders to ensure the opportunity for the region is maximised.

About You:

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated individual with exceptional stakeholder management and relationship building skills. An understanding of the health innovation ecosystem and the discover, develop, deploy lifecycle is essential. A detailed knowledge of the latter stages of this lifecycle would be desirable.

Whilst a regional health innovation strategy is in development, there will be scope for the successful candidate to input into this and help shape the direction and focus of the agenda (working very closely with partners).

The postholder will need to liaise with other health innovation clusters to share learning and best practice, particularly across the emerging NP11 health innovation agenda.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing strong effective relationships with relevant Government departments, directly influencing national policy.
