Ravensthorpe CE (VC) Junior School is a four-form entry school situated in an ethnically and religiously diverse community. We are very proud of the progress that all of our pupils make during their time with us which is evidenced in our excellent SATs results over the last few years. In our recent Ofsted inspection (February 2023), we were graded Good: ‘Pupils are safe and happy at this friendly, welcoming school. Their conduct is exemplary in lessons and around school.’

Ours is a highly inclusive church school and spirituality underpins our values and culture. The Headteacher and Governors wish to appoint an Attendance Officer who:

  • Can develop good relationships with both pupils and parents
  • Has excellent time-management skills
  • Can ‘think outside the box’ for strategies to improve short- and long-term attendance concerns
  • Has good understanding of data – how to interpret it and present it
  • Is able to work as part of a team but is also self-driven, able to manage their time effectively
  • Is excited to attend training and learn more about how to be effective in the role
  • Has a good standard of written and spoken English and a sound knowledge of IT systems

Your main duties will be:

  • Work with groups of pupils on emotion-based school avoidance
  • Work with parents, developing relationships and supporting pupils to come to school, including making home visits when required
  • Lead strategies such as a ‘walking bus’ to encourage attendance
  • Keep accurate records, providing regular attendance/absence reports to the Headteacher, governors and other staff members
  • Liaise with outside agencies and assist in developing and implementing support plans
  • Promote good attendance using an Attendance Award scheme and other related school-wide strategies

We can offer:

  • a Church school at the heart of our diverse community
  • fantastic children who are motivated and enthusiastic in their work
  • supportive parents who work well with the school
  • supportive Pastoral and Office teams who will work in conjunction with the advertised role
  • dedicated staff members who wish to help improve attendance throughout school
