Kirklees Libraries are looking to expand our friendly, dynamic team. We are excited to offer the opportunity for you to become one of our new Customer Service Officers, working a range of hours across all our libraries in Kirklees but mainly in Dewsbury, Batley and the Spen Valley.

Do you enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds? Do you want to make a difference to people’s lives and help communities to grow? If so, we want to hear from you!

We do a variety of work and no two days are ever the same. We work with local communities, engage with and deliver activities for young people, and help adults across a range of services. Due to the people-focussed nature of our work, it can be challenging, but also very rewarding.

We work with partner organisations and communities to deliver a range of services. Some activities you might get involved with are:

  • Engaging with job seekers
  • Helping to develop young minds – working with children and parents
  • Helping combat loneliness and social isolation
  • Working with community groups
  • Supporting people without access at home to computer facilities and broadband

We are looking for self-motivated people who are happy to work on their own or as part of a team. We are also looking for flexibility as we sometimes have to work at different libraries at short notice.

We care about our staff and have a track record of offering opportunities for career progression both within the library service, and throughout the wider Council. We also offer the opportunity for staff to work towards relevant qualifications. Ongoing training and support is provided for all positions we offer.

The jobs and hours available are all relief posts, which means you may work in different locations and during different hours from week to week. We work “Annualised Hours,” which means that, although your hours may be slightly different, you will be paid the same every week.

A total of 13 jobs are available, at 20 or 25 hours per week. A 20-hour post may be worked over four days per week, a 25-hour post could be worked over five days. You will be asked to state which you would prefer at the time of application. All posts are on fixed term contracts for up to 11 months.

We will be advertising further opportunities later for posts in our Huddersfield and Holme and Colne valley areas.

If you require further assistance, please contact frontline.services@kirklees.gov.uk

Interviews are expected to take place between 4th and 23rd January 2021.
