Kirklees is firmly focused on the future. Our vision is to create a district with a strong, sustainable economy that offers a great quality of life to its residents - leading to thriving communities, growing businesses, high prosperity and low inequality, and where people enjoy better health throughout their lives.

A clear and innovative approach to communications is critical to the delivery of our vision and we are looking for a creative and compelling advocate for strategic communications to join the senior leadership team.

Core to the role will be the development of a new Communications Strategy.  We have lots of ideas on what this needs to involve, but we need yours too and your help, leadership and credibility to engage with and influence staff, councillors, partners and communities to get this right; not just for now, but for the next few years.  Covid-19 has tested our approach to communications and our operations in ways that we would have feared if we knew what was coming.  But we have stood up to the test and learned a lot that will stand us in good stead for our future direction and the operations you will lead.

You will support and challenge existing ways of working and deliver joined-up approaches, with a focus on outcomes for people and communities.  Just as important will be your political nous and your ability to work and inspire confidence within a political environment.

If you have excellent leadership and change management skills, the ability to influence partners and a proven track record of success in delivering effective communications strategies, then we would like to hear from you. In return we offer a competitive salary and benefits, along with the opportunity to be part of our ambitious plans and transformation journey.

Our Corporate Plan is being revised to work with the world in which we now live, but everything that is important to us and our communities remains.
