Addressing Climate Change is high on the Local, Regional and National agendas and our Energy & Climate Change Team is working hard to develop and implement our detailed Climate Emergency Programme across the Council and the Kirklees district.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced officer who wants to play a leading role in the delivery of Kirklees Council Climate Emergency response. We are looking for someone who can work alongside the Energy & Climate Change Group Leader and manage some of the Climate Change Officers and Project Officers in developing and implementing the Climate Change Programme.

As the Senior Climate Change Officer, you will focus on tackling the climate crisis by working across the Council to help develop and deliver the Climate Emergency Programme. This will include managing a team of officers across the Energy & Climate Change Team, supporting the Group Leader in the development and implementation of the programme, and building and maintaining highly effective working relationships and representing the Council with key stakeholders across the service team and other Council services and partners.

You will support first hand in the development and delivery of the Environment Sustainability Strategy, Climate Change Action plan, energy and carbon reduction projects and have the technical knowledge, behaviours, and skills to facilitate successful outcomes, supported by a strong understanding of organisation and corporate policies and local authority governance and politics.

The role requires the ability to continually identify opportunities for funding and to lead the submission of bids which promote innovative ideas and concepts. Being able to adapt to the changing requirements of the role is a must, to meet the demands of the rapidly changing and growing areas of the Climate Emergency.

You will be a leader with strong communication and skills to engage a range of internal and external stakeholders including internal colleagues, senior managers, Councillors and Cabinet members, neighbouring authorities, businesses, and anchor institutions.

You will be joining a high-profile political and corporate service area which delivers change that impacts across the whole Council and meets the challenges of how we address climate change and reduce emissions in the future.
