Are you ready to turn your Environmental Health studies into real‑world experience?
Kirklees Council has a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic Student Environmental Health Officer to join our Public Protection team and take the first step in a rewarding Environmental Health career.

This is a development role, designed to support you through the CIEH Environmental Health Practitioner Portfolio while you gain hands‑on experience working alongside friendly, experienced officers who genuinely want to see you succeed.

You’ll get involved in a wide variety of work, including Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Pollution and Noise Control, with dedicated opportunities to gain experience in Housing – helping you build confidence, skills, and a strong professional foundation.

What you’ll be doing

With training and support, you’ll:

  • Take part in investigating environmental health complaints
  • Visit and inspect homes and businesses across the borough
  • Learn how environmental health legislation works in practice
  • Build confidence managing a supervised caseload
  • Experience some evening and out‑of‑hours work once trained

No two days are the same – and you’ll be encouraged to learn, ask questions, and get involved.

What we’re looking for

This role is perfect if you:

  • Are studying towards, or have completed, a CIEH‑accredited BSc or MSc in Environmental Health
  • Are eligible and committed to completing the CIEH Practitioner Portfolio
  • Have a positive attitude, good communication skills, and a professional approach
  • Are keen to learn and motivated to start your career
  • Hold a full driving licence and can travel for work

No previous experience is needed — just enthusiasm, commitment, and a real interest in protecting public health.
