Kirklees Integrated Community Equipment Service (KICES) operates across the whole of Kirklees to provides items of community equipment, via our commissioned provider, to meet people’s assessed Health and Social Care needs and promote their independence.
We require an occupational therapist with robust clinical knowledge and competencies to be able to support the provision of this service.
The aim of the service is to enable people to live as independently as possible, in their chosen home, and enable health and social care services to function effectively and without delay. There is a focus on preventing service users from developing more complex needs reducing risk and supporting people to have the opportunity to retain some control over their lives.
The successful candidate will enable the delivery of the vision for KICES, using their clinical skill set and experience to support the effective provision of equipment to meet people’s needs. This will involve working closely with prescribers from hospital and community teams providing oversight of the appropriate use of the service’s resources and carrying out authorisation of equipment requests from a wide variety of Health and Social Care professionals. You will work closely with our provider, Medequip, to ensure an effective service is provided. The role will also involve carrying out reviews of equipment in service users’ own homes and other settings to support their ongoing needs when appropriate as well as supporting other prescribers to develop their competencies through the provision of training sessions.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our existing team, to act as a champion for equipment services in decision-making arenas and work with health and social care colleagues, partner agencies, independent private/voluntary sector providers and other departments to provide better outcomes for our service users.
To be considered for this job you will need a good understanding of the positive outcomes Community Equipment Services can offer in relation to wider health and social care initiatives, a wide knowledge of assistive equipment, and be able to demonstrate robust clinical reasoning and be prepared to authorise or challenge requests for provision of equipment.
