A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an ambitious leader to work at a welcoming and friendly school.  You may be someone who is already experienced as a member of SLT or you may be an aspiring Deputy Head who has gained leadership experience in your current role.

Howard Park Community School is a one form entry primary school set in the town of Cleckheaton and is very much a community school in every sense of the word.  The school has built strong relationships with parents and is well regarded in the community and amongst other professionals.  The Children’s Centre that the school leads promotes a variety of courses and opportunities to support the local community.  This ethos is carried over into the way that school supports a number of families.

The school’s most recent Ofsted was in December 2022 and the school was graded as ‘good.’  We are particularly proud of the impact our phonics scheme has had and the improvement in results we have seen over the past few years. The curriculum has been a focus over the past few years and strong foundations have been laid across all subjects.

We strongly believe in developing the whole child.  Our values of ‘Respect, Responsibility, Care and Ambition’ are lived out daily and focus on developing well-rounded and balanced children.

The key areas of this role will be to support the Headteacher in leading the school to further improvement.  This will include taking on the role of SENDCo and other significant leadership roles.  The ability to drive forward further improvements will be essential alongside placing pupils at the heart of every decision they make.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be an excellent primary practitioner with high aspirations for both pupils and colleagues.
  • Have successful experience as a leader (Deputy Headteacher, Assistant Headteacher or other significant Leadership role) in the primary phase.
  • Be passionate and knowledgeable about children’s learning and development.
  • Be an effective communicator.
  • Be able to think reflectively and creatively.
  • Be engaged with current educational research.
  • Be flexible and willing to get involved.
  • Have the ability to deputise for the Headteacher.
  • Lead on whole-school curriculum development; teaching and learning.
  • Have a good understanding of SEND and be prepared to take on the SENDCO NPQ.

We can offer:

  • A supportive leadership team with high quality further professional development.
  • Hard-working staff, committed to raising pupil outcomes.
  • A leadership team that is committed to staff wellbeing.
  • An environment that is focussed on ensuring both pupils and staff can achieve the best they can be.
  • The opportunity to lead others and develop your own leadership skills.
  • A supportive Governing Body which is committed to driving the school forward.
