The Licensing Team is responsible for licensing of hackney carriage/private hire, Licensing Act, Gambling Act and all other general licensing in Kirklees. This role involves delivering training to the Council’s private hire and hackney carriage trade to both new and existing licence holders. The service is a customer focused environment, the team is busy, and demand led. The Driver Training Officer role is vital as it is one of the first points of access to the service for customers. There is a requirement to work flexibly in accordance with the needs of the service and the successful candidate be expected to work in the office and will be required to deliver training in various locations throughout Kirklees. Our office is currently based outside of the town centre at the Council’s offices at Flint Street South. The successful applicant will develop, implement and amend training activities to meet identified needs within the service, in line with the Councils policies and any legislation, statutory or good practice guidance and create and implement appropriate evaluation mechanisms to ensure the continued monitoring of training programmes. Requirements for this job: - Develop, implement and deliver training which includes the regulatory framework of the hackney carriage and private hire industry, professional standards, safeguarding, equalities/disability, local conditions, policies and bylaws to both existing and new licensees.
- Develop bespoke training where required.
- Develop and deliver a practical wheelchair course (for all drivers of wheelchair accessible vehicles)
- Deliver practical driving tests.
- Provide a high-quality professional, technical, and administrative, customer focused service with the ability to multi-task in a busy, variable, and frontline environment.
- Work collaboratively with managers and colleagues in the team to ensure effective delivery of high-quality service.
- Ability to remain calm, understanding, responsive and supportive whilst facing difficult customers.
- Ability to embrace change and proactively promote and support the Licensing Department’s procedures and responsibilities with regards to public protection.
