South Kirklees Day Opportunities (SKDO) provides a service for adults aged 18 and above whom have a wide range of complex learning disabilities and can also present complex health and/or behavioural needs. 

It is a safe, and friendly environment for individuals where they can meet others and take part in activities that will help maintain their life skills.  

Main duties as a Support Worker will be:

Supporting individuals with a wide range of tasks around movement & handling, personal care, supporting with exercise programs, administration of medication / buccal rescue medication, and Gastrostomy care

Working with individuals on a 1-1 with individuals with complex health/behaviours, promoting daily living skills, offering choices / guidance, and promoting dignity, respecting service users’ cultural beliefs, lifestyle, privacy and confidentially

Contributing to care plans and risk assessments, assisting with transport to/from individual’s home

Other requirements for a Support Worker are:

An understanding of Adult Social Care

Caring and flexible approach

Hold the Care Certificate (or equivalent) or be prepared to complete this within 12 weeks of appointment

Willingness to undertake specialist training

An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required for this job.  A conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.
